China To Launch AI Classes For Primary Schools
Chinese education authorities have announced that starting in September 2025, schools in Beijing will implement AI courses into primary and secondary school curriculums, including after-school programs and activities.
The authorities plan to collaborate with leading companies, universities, and research institutions to create AI courses. Schools will offer at least eight hours of AI education each year, either through standalone classes or integrated into existing subjects like IT and science.
This move is part of China's broader plan to boost AI development and investment, with the country aiming to become more self-reliant in technology. Over 500 universities in China already offer AI courses, and top schools like Peking University are expanding AI-related programs.
At the primary school level, AI courses will focus on developing students' basic understanding of AI. As students move to secondary school, they will take more practical courses to strengthen their skills in applying and innovating with AI.
