What Your Recruiter Wants to Know About You
When you're first speaking with your recruiter, you might find that there are a few things that we REALLY want to know about you. It’s not just us being nosey, it’s so we can get a better idea of who you are and do an even better job of finding you your dream job!
So, what is it that your recruiter wants to know about you?
1. What Are You Looking for in Your Next Role?
This helps us to understand your values, priorities, and career motivations. Are you seeking more development opportunities? A leadership pathway? A school with aligning values? What are your long term goals? These are the things we can’t tell from just a CV, but are what make you unique as a candidate and help us to match you with the best possible fit.
2. What Are Your Salary Expectations?
Giving a clear salary expectation range helps avoid mismatches and ensures we only pursue roles that meet your goals. Equally, we want to know how flexible you are in your expectations. Would you take a small pay cut for a role that suits perfectly in other important areas? We’ll always do our best to match your salary expectations or negotiate a good deal. Just remember, if your salary expectations are crazy high for the current market, it’s going to be much harder for us to find you something and you could miss out on some amazing opportunities!
3. Have You Already Applied Anywhere?
This is simply to avoid duplicated applications and confusion. It also helps us understand what kind of roles you’re drawn to and how far along you are in your job search.
4. Which Locations Are You Considering?
Even if you have a preferred location in mind, letting us know if you're open to relocation or exploring opportunities gives us more to work with. Sometimes we may have access to roles in areas you haven’t considered yet, but could be a great fit. It’s always worth being open-minded and seeing what else is out there!
5. Do You Have Any Dependents?
If you have dependents who need their tuition covered, we want to know! That way, we can focus on the roles that offer these kinds of benefits. Also, if you have a partner who’s a teacher too, then we might be able to help them out.
6. What’s Your Current Document Situation?
Especially important for teachers who are outside of China, if you’re currently at step 0 in your visa documentation and application process, then it’s a little too early for us to start applying. However, if your documents are good to go (or in final stages) then we can get started!
7. What Are The Reasons For Leaving Your Current Job?
This isn’t us prying, it just really helps to be on the same page. Whether you completed your contract and are looking for the next step, or found your previous employment to be a bad fit, it’s best for us to know so we can align your applications accordingly. This is also a question that A LOT of schools will ask us, so best to be prepared.
Recruiters are your partner in the job search: the more we know, the more we can do for you! Being open about your situation and goals helps us help you find not just a job, but the right next step in your career.
